According to the webiste Mashable, these are the worst candies you can get for Halloween:

1.  Necco Wafers

2.  Smarties.  That's two "chalk-y" items in the top two spots.

3.  Candy buttons

4.  Candy corn

5.  Brach's Pumpkins.  Those are the little pumpkin versions of candy corn.

6.  Dum Dums lollipops

7.  Tootsie Rolls

8.  Hot Tamales

9.  Laffy Taffy, specifically the banana flavor

10.  Twizzlers

Now, I guess as far as lists go, that's about as good as any. The only place I differ is on candy corn, but that's strictly a matter of taste. Now that I think about, I need to go get myself a bag of candy corn later today.

Necco Wafers! I remember those from the kid shows that Pat McClure and I used to go see on Saturday mornings. We would each get our allowance for the week and invariably spend most of it on going to the movies and buying all the great stuff at the snack bar. Necco Wafers didn't seem so bad back then, but now that I know more about candy, the less I'm impressed with chalky candies like Necco and Smarties.

There were certain things you never wanted to see in your bag on Halloween, and chief among them was fruit. Please! It's Halloween! Shell out for some real candy. Apples and oranges just are not Halloween treats. You might as well just drop a whole pineapple in a kid's bag. Either way, it was going to end up in the garbage can.

Back in those days, all candies didn't come in Halloween sizes, and some candies were not even individually wrapped, either. Let me tell you, theres nothing like looking in your Halloween bag and seeing those darn orange slices. You know, that orange, sugar-coated gelatinous mass that tastes nothing like an orange. Well, there was one lady on our block who always dropped those orange slices in our bags. I mean, it went straight from the old, sweaty hands into our bag of candy. Needless to say, those ended up on the street.

The moral of the story is this: Do unto others' candy the way you want people to give candy unto you. Besides, you're going to get stuck with most of it, so you might as well get something good.
