Everyone loves a great picnic or tailgate party but sometimes, especially around here with so much rain, there are uninvited guest that can make any family event miserable.  Those unwanted guest come in the form of pesky little mosquitoes that can carry viruses and just plain make you miserable from their bite.  There are many products on the market to keep them at bay, however, if you are sensitive to chemicals and their smells you have to find an alternative method to address unwanted guest. Relax, there are some simple and inexpensive solutions to help out.

A couple of simple ways to keep mosquitoes away from your party is to  fill a squirt bottle with water and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil.  Once this is mixed, simple spray on your skin and also around your picnic area.  The mosquitoes don't like the smell of eucalyptus and will avoid your area and move on to the neighbors.

Another approach is to take a handful of fresh basil leaves and put them in a bowl or jar. Pour about 1/2 cup boiling water over the leaves and let them steep for 2-4 hours. Squeeze the basil leaves over the water to get out as much of their liquid as possible. Now pour the infused liquid into a spray bottle and mix in 1/2 cup vodka.  Shake gentle and spray on skin.  I have been told this is a very effective way to keep out unwanted mosquitoes and may work for uninvited guest as well.  Enjoy your picnic in peace.
