Louisiana Residents To Pay More For Thanksgiving Meal In 2022
Thanksgiving is two weeks away and rising inflation will cause Louisiana families to shell out more money this year to have the same meal as last year. We found out how much more you'll be paying in 2022.
The Bureau of Labor says that inflation has eased over the last few months, however, it was still high in October leading into November at 7.7% over 2021.
Bureau of Labor Statistics For Thanksgiving in 2022:
- Price of turkeys is up 17% from 2021
- Price of butter has gone up 26% from 2021
- Rice of canned fruit and veggies are up 18% from 2021
- Price of potatoes are up 15% from 2021
I wrote an article in 2021 about how Louisiana residents would pay $11.41 less for their Thanksgiving meal than the national average. However, it looks like inflation is biting everyone where it hurts this year, in the pocketbook.
Russell Boening, president of the Texas Farm Bureau, has been tracking the growing food costs from 2021 to 2022.
Boening says that an average Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people will cost around $60 in 2022.
I would like to see what was on their shopping list to get that figure, because either that amount is false or I'm getting taken for a ride at one of our local grocery stores. My family is cooking Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year and we're expecting to feed about 6-10 people, but mostly likely on 6.
We put in a curb side pickup order for next week to see how much it was going to cost to buy the food for Thanksgiving and it wasn't even close to $60.
I also don't think that we went overboard on any purchases. here's what we're getting:
- 2 frozen boneless 3lb turkeys
- 1 pre-cut brown sugar ham
- yeast rolls
- supplies to make green bean casserole
- supplies to make cornbread dressing
- 24 pack of water, 3 two-liters of soda, and 24 pack of soda
- potatoes, mustard, mayo for potato salad
- garlic & herb meat injector
- boil in a bag rice
- Savoie's cajun dressing mix
- can of cranberry sauce
- turkey gravy
- apple pie
- pumpkin pie
- brownies
- vanilla ice cream
- cool whip
- cheese cake
- supplies to make rotel cheese dip
As you can see from above, it's your run-of-the-meal Thanksgiving fest. I even went behind my wife and switch name brand items for store brands. Right now, our total price is $186.73 to feed 6-10. I have no idea how you can feed a family of 10 for $60, it just doesn't make since to me.
The staff at 92.9 The Lake would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and hope that you have a joyous time with your family and friends. Eat some cranberry sauce for me.
