Calcasieu School Board Will Cover Student Meal Costs Next Year
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Parents in SWLA had many questions when the news broke that the USDA would no longer cover the cost of free meals for certain students in Calcasieu Parish schools.
The school board announced that children who do not qualify for free or reduced lunches via the School Nutrition Program will no longer have their meals fully covered by USDA.

Since hurricanes Laura and Delta, Calcasieu has provided free breakfast and lunch to all of its students in the district's cafeterias.
The school board will pay for the extra expenses of these meals for the upcoming academic year since it believes that their students' academic progress depends on eating nutritious meals.
