It's been so cool to watch Art Fest grow over the years to become one of the lake area's premier events. The event, hosted by the Arts Council of SWLA and the City of Lake Charles, is taking place this Saturday at the Lake Charles Exhibition Hall instead of on the streets of downtown Lake Charles.

Over the years, it's become very obvious that there are some very talented artists living in and around the lake area, and this event is great for discovering local artists. There's nothing like finding a one-of-a-kind work of art that has a local connection. At Arts Fest, you'll find artists of every style and description.

There are plenty of hands-on experiences for grown-ups and kids alike. One of the most popular attractions is the one-on-one pottery lessons. If you've ever wanted to create your own pottery, here's a chance for an introductory lesson!

This year's theme is "recycling", and kids are invited to create their own works of art out of recycled material. Imagine how much grandparents might love a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork from their grandchildren!

Of course, in addition to every kind of art one could imagine, there is also food and live music for the event.

This year, Arts Fest will be at the Lake Charles Civic Center Exhibition hall from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.. Admission is free.

ArtsFest is sponsored by the City of Lake Charles, the Arts Council of SWLA, Wal-Mart on the Bayou, McDonald’s of SWLA, Stine Lumber, The Art Factory, and the Office of Cultural Development.

Area businesses or organizations interested in sponsoring or hosting a craft booth should contact the Arts Council at (337) 439-2787.
