Last Thursday, the body of Jody Barlow was found near Starks and now an arrest has been made in that case. Zachery A. Bench, 21, of Vinton was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, armed robbery and obstruction of justice in that case. Bench is being held on a bond of $1.8 million.

According to the charges, Bench allegedly stole Barlow's truck, some personal items, an iPad and guns at the time of the robbery. Barlow's truck and trailer were found completely burned about 10 miles from Starks on Greenmore Road.

A convenience store surveillance video shows that Bench and Barlow were seen together late last Tuesday evening. The video tape also shows that Bench was driving his side-by-side at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday near where Barlow's body was discovered. A witness says that Bench asked for directions because he was lost. A witness saw a large amount of black smoke and the smell of burning rubber around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities know that Bench had to have help getting from the truck back to Starks, and the driver of that vehicle is being sought as a person of interest in the case.
