It was one of the hot potato stories of 2012. Education reform had folks on both sides of the table stirred up and, in a very rare event, teachers walked in Baton Rouge to protest some of the reforms. A judge's ruling is expected some time tomorrow on the subject.

It's an argument starter. Just mention "school vouchers' and you'll get lots of different opinions. Like them or hate them, the program starts this school year! Here's why the program was allowed to continue:

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed a $25 million budget which prioritizes education and healthcare, all while eliminating the $900,000 normally allocated for public libraries. Paul Rainwater, Jindal’s chief budget aide, said, “Operations such as local libraries can be supported with local, not state dollars.”

The heat is still on for Bobby Jindal and House Speakers Chuck Kleckley as efforts to have both men recalled continue. Folks behind the recall have 180 days (beginning with the recall petition start date) to collect enough signatures to force the recall. The magic number is 33% for each politician. That’s 33% of voters state-wide for Jindal, while Kleckley’s 33% must come from his district. Read M

You will, no doubt, recall all the protest that surrounded Governor Bobby Jindal's education reform earlier in the year.  Despite all the protest from teachers and parents alike, the sweeping changes were approved by lawmakers in the recent legislative session. Now, a new challenge to those changes has surfaced with not one, but two suits aimed at reversing those changes.

Teachers in Louisiana feel that they are at the end of their collective rope in trying to deal with the revamp in public education. So much so that the drive is underway to file a recall petition against Governor Bobby Jindal and House Speaker Chuck Kleckley.
