On Wednesday, November 6, detectives with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office were informed of an incident involving a juvenile and a gun on the campus at Washington Marion High School.

According to a media release from Kim Myers,

A student reported to the CPSO School Resource Officer that a 16 year old boy had a gun in his backpack at school.  After a search of the 16 year old's backpack, an unloaded gun was found, along with one live round wrapped in some paper.

The student was arrested and faces a charge of possession of a weapon in a firearm free zone.

"The student who reported to the SRO that a gun was in a backpack will be recommended for a reward under a special Crimestopper program that encourages students to report guns on school campuses", said Myers.
