On February 10, deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office went to arrest 30-year-old Austin P. Anderson on charges connected to a theft investigation. While at his home, deputies found a young girl inside. After speaking with Anderson and the girl, deputies noticed that their stories didn’t match up, raising concerns.

The girl was safely returned to her mother while detectives continued looking into the situation.

As the investigation moved forward, deputies found out that an anonymous tip had been sent to the Sheriff’s Office earlier. The tip warned about a possible inappropriate relationship between Anderson and the same girl. After getting a search warrant for the girl's phone, detectives reviewed text messages that confirmed Anderson knew she was underage. Some of the messages were sexual, and others showed Anderson asking the girl to help him get marijuana.

On April 10, detectives received a warrant for Anderson’s arrest, signed by Judge Tony Fazzio.

Deputies located Anderson on April 21, but he tried to hide his identity by giving them a fake name. When deputies attempted to arrest him, Anderson refused to follow orders and tried to pull away. He was eventually taken into custody.
