The last thing any of us attempting to recover from the damage of Hurricane Laura want to see is the process being held up by government-mandated red-tape. Hopefully, those attempting to expedite their recovery from the storm in Calcasieu Parish can have some of the bureaucratic hurdles removed with the opening of a temporary permitting office.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Division of Planning and Development will open a temporary office at Prien Lake Park to begin issuing temporary work licenses and permits for those who need them to perform Hurricane Laura recovery work in Calcasieu Parish. That office is expected to be open from 8 until 5 today. It will operate Monday thru Friday.

These are the kinds of permits and licenses that you'll be able to obtain through this temporary office.

Those needing permits for work licenses and permits for storm-related recovery in the parish may get the proper paperwork done at this temporary facility. The license and permits will cover construction, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permits for the unincorporated areas of Calcasieu Parish. As well as offering permits and licenses for municipalities in the parish too.

Officials with the Office of Planning and Development chose the Prien Lake Park site because of its proximity to I-210 and the fact that the area has abundant parking. Due to COVID-19, all residents must wear masks when entering the facility and they must practice social distancing.
