The weather warning was issued at 3 pm CST Tuesday January 28, 2025:

The warning says Louisiana residents should expect to experience heavy rainfall with damaging winds, large hail, and even a few quick spin up tornadoes.

Here are five essential tips to get your house ready for severe weather:

  1. Secure Outdoor Items – Bring in or tie down patio furniture, grills, and decorations to prevent them from becoming projectiles in high winds.
  2. Reinforce Windows and Doors – Install storm shutters or board up windows with plywood. Check that all doors are secure, especially garage doors, which are vulnerable to strong winds.
  3. Prepare for Power Outages – Have flashlights, batteries, and backup power sources ready. Consider a generator to keep essential appliances running.
  4. Clear Gutters and Drains – Remove debris to prevent water buildup and flooding around your home. Ensure downspouts direct water away from your foundation.
  5. Stock Emergency Supplies – Have a supply kit with food, water, medications, first aid, and important documents in a waterproof container.
