Tropical Threat Looms: Louisiana Braces for Storm or Hurricane This Week
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Saharan Dust and wind shear in the Carribean has helped create a slow start to the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, however, a disturbance is expected in the Gulf later this week.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking a disturbance off the coast of Florida that's heading to the Gulf which they're giving, currently, a 30% chance of formation.

The disturbance should cross over the Florida panhandle and reach the Gulf in the next few days.
Meteorologist Zack Fradella says that the disturbance should get an "invest" designation later today which means the NHC will begin releasing spaghetti models for the potential storm.
The stronger the storm becomes, the more likely that Louisiana will get a landfall, as shown by the model below.

The one thing we know for sure, this storm/disturbance is going to bring a ton of rain to the Gulf Coast this week.
It's not out of the realm of possibility that we could see rapid intensification with this disturbance once it reaches the Gulf. We saw with last year's hurricane season, the Gulf spawned some very strong storms, and they strengthened very quickly early in the season last year.
