Robin Roberts Surprises St. Louis Girls Basketball Team
Back on October 21, 2020, Robin Roberts and Rob Marciano came to Lake Charles to broadcast live on Good Morning America on ABC.
During the visit that afternoon, Robin Roberts took a stroll through a Lake Charles neighborhood, assessing the damage that was still apparent in the area and also talked with Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso about the situation in the Southwest Louisiana area.
The next morning on October 22, Roberts and Marciano went live from the campus of St. Louis High School. They spoke with parents, teachers, and students about all the things they had been going through since Hurricanes Laura and Delta devastated our area.
You may recognize the name Rob Marciano, as he worked at KPLC TV as one of their chief meteorologists from 1994-1997 before moving to CNN and now Good Morning America on ABC.
During their visit that morning, they had local Zydeco artist Sean Ardoin play live and then made a check presentation to the city for relief. The community was appreciative of ABC and Roberts not only for the financial help, but also for shedding light on our ongoing recovery efforts.
Well, we thought that was the end of that until today, when Robin Roberts took to her Twitter to say she had an announcement to make about a promise she made to the St. Louis girls basketball team.
So what was the promise? Here is what we found out.
Robin Roberts just announced on GMA at 8:00am this morning that while she was down here in Lake Charles, she meet the St. Louis girls basketball team and told them next time she saw them, she wanted them to be in uniform.
Well, the St. Louis girls basketball team is in the state championship game tomorrow when they take on Liberty at 2:30pm in Hammond, Louisiana. Roberts said live on TV that if the girls win the game, she will come down and visit them in Lake Charles this Monday, March 8.
How cool is that? Good luck to the lady Saints!
