October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, lets rally our support to help people in the community who need it most. Breast cancer is a concern for all of us and there are a lot of women in the community that don't have the money or insurance to pay for annual mammograms, medications and so on. This is a major reason why the National Breast Cancer Foundation is always in need of donations. On Sept. 30, President Biden officially proclaimed October 2021 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“I encourage citizens, government agencies, private businesses, nonprofit organizations, and other interested groups,” he continued, “to join in activities that will increase awareness of what Americans can do to prevent and control breast cancer, and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to this disease.”

So, we got to keep raising awareness, reminding women and men that annual screenings and self exams are the key to survival and early detection. October is all about saving lives. We can all make a difference by donating today. The money raised all month is put to good use says Elizabeth A. Jett M.D.Director of Breast Imaging, OU Breast Institute. It "allows us to reach vulnerable women who are falling through the cracks. Whether this leads to a cancer diagnosis that can now be successfully treated or provides peace of mind that there is no evidence of cancer, we have changed somebody’s life for the better."

Share your story and how breast cancer has impacted your family. Upload your favorite picture of yourself and share a message of hope. Behind every photo is a story with the power to uplift and inspire others. The motto for this years awareness campaign is finding ways to RISE Together.

The official 2021 Real Kids Wear Pink Day is Friday, October 22, 2021. Kids can make a difference in the fight against cancer as well! Lets rise and help this program grow by inviting kids and their schools around Lake Area to join the fight.
