National Weather Service Finds Hurricane Laura High Water Mark
The National Weather Service has found a storm surge water mark at Rutherford Beach, and it is hard to fathom.
17.2 feet. That is almost as tall as the average 2-story building (18-20 feet). Can you imagine the force that comes with that much water?
Once you can imagine how much water is contained in a 17+ foot storm surge, then you might begin to understand how it can wreak so much damage on property, especially property that was already weakened by 100+ mph winds.
The storm surge high water mark was left on what remained of structures on Rutherford Beach in Cameron Parish.
As of this morning, utility companies are reporting that there are still 25,000 customers without power in Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes as a result of Hurricane Laura.
