National Farmers Markets Week– There’s One Near You!
It's National Farmers Market Week, and a great time to check out the two farmers markets open weekly in Lake Charles. Also, the USDA provides an easy-to-use database to find one that's even closer to YOU!
The Charlestown Farmers Market is open on Thursday afternoons in University Park from 3:00 until 6:00, and again on Saturday mornings behind Lake Charles City Hall downtown from 8:00 until noon. From handmade tamales to homegrown tomatoes, grass-fed beef to homemade preserves, they've got lots of items you would expect from a great farmers market and so much more. They even have sweets!
On Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 until 6:00, you can visit the Cash & Carry Farmers Market on Enterprise Boulevard in downtown Lake Charles. They've got fantastic homemade products, as well as beautiful homegrown fruits and vegetables so you can stock up for the week.
Again, there are many farmers markets not a lot of folks know about. Farmers markets are not only growing in number, but also helping to grow their communities culturally and economically.
