McNeese heads to the Piney Woods to face SFA.

The McNeese Cowboys head to Nacogdoches, Tx., this Saturday evening to face the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. The Southland Conference game will kickoff at 6 p.m. Mcneese is 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play after a 43-6 win over Incarnate Word. The Lumberjacks are off to a 0-2 start with losses to Northern Arizona 34-28, and at TCU 70-7. This will be the conference opener for SFA.

The Cowboys hold a 18-14-2 lead in the series, but trail 7-9-1 in  games played in Nacogdoches. The 'Jacks won in Lake Charles last year 31-16.

One interesting note about this game: SFA head coach, Clint Conque was an assistant at McNeese from 1987 to 1989. He was the head coach at Central Arkansas for 13 years before moving to SFA. His son Zach, is the quarterback for the Lumberjacks and was the SLC Newcomer of the year in 2014. He threw for three touchdowns against the Cowboys last season.
