For the majority of us, Mardi Gras is just a good time of going to balls, parades and parties, but to the region, it means revenue and a pretty good chunk of it as well. I mean if you add up all the beads and costumes, food and hotel revenue, you've got a pretty good haul going and KPLC is projecting that, right here in the Lake Area, Mardi Gras 2017 could bring in &16 million.

Mardi Gras Lake Charles has grown like wildfire in the time I've lived in the Lake Area. I'm pretty sure that one big reason is that people are confident that they can experience all the fun of Mardi Gras and still feel pretty safe which is not a brag the Big Easy can make. It seems that this is a good area for families to enjoy the festivites as well as the out-of-control party animals in New Orleans.

To the east of us, Lafayette is projecting a good revenue from mardi Gras this year and the Big Easy itself is looking for a major haul again this year.Back in 2014, New Orleans raked in about $465 million dollars. that's a lot of tourist, my friend and we're beginning to see more and more tourist coming through the area looking for a safe place to celebrate Mardi Gras.

That adds up to a very positive economic impact for SWLA over just a few days. Remember that Mardi Gras is February 28th and we've got another chance to put our best foot forward and make those tourist want to come back to SWLA time and time again.

We'll be publishing the full Mardi Gras schedule on this site a bit later. Do you have up your mardi Gras tree?
