Louisiana State Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash In Allen Parish
We have so many distractions today. We also drive cars that handle much better and all you have to do is barely move the steering wheel to change the vehicle's direction. Combine those two things and driving today can be very dangerous. According to Louisiana State police inattentive and distracted driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. It may have contributed to this fatal accident.
At around 6:00 this morning Michael D. Cooley of Deridder was driving his Toyota 4 Runner east on LA 112 west of Highway 377 in Allen Parish. He ran off the road (for unknown reasons) and then over corrected to re-enter the road. This caused him to strike a log truck coming from the other direction. The log truck driver tried to avoid the crash which caused him to hit another log truck that was headed east behind Michael D. Cooley.
Michael D. Cooley was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop D has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 21 fatalities this year.
