The story broke today from CBS Houston. The flesh-eating bacteria that infected a fisherman through an open wound (and three others)  is known as Vibrio vulnificus, according to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. All were infected off the Louisiana Coast.

The 83 year old Terrebonne Parish fisherman died from the bacteria while three others are being treated. According to TheTownTalk.com one of the men is a 43 year old Calcasieu Parish man who cut his foot on an oyster reef creating an open wound. According to the Centers for Disease Control ...the bacteria results in death 50% of the time if it infects the bloodstream. according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Several Louisiana beaches are checked regularly for the bacteria and signs are posted when levels are high.
