Detectives with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Lake Charles College Prep on Wednesday, September 11, at about 3:30 pm, in reference to a 17-year-old boy possibly possessing a gun at school.

Upon arrival, detectives learned the student was detained by school personnel, where they then informed them a handgun was in found in the student's backpack. Further investigation showed that the gun was previously reported stolen through the Lake Charles Police Department, said a media release.

The student was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with "illegal carrying of a weapon in a firearm free zone; and possession of a stolen firearm".
