FTC Warns Parents Of Dating Apps That Target Children
A parental advisory has been sent out by the Federal Trade Commission warning parents of certain apps that allow adults to "find and communicate with children."
According to the post by Lisa Weintraub Schifferle, an attorney with the Division of Consumer & Business Education, the apps FastMeet, Meet24 and Meet4U are set up for children to create public dating profiles and also collect users’ real-time location data. This means adults can use the apps to connect with children and even "search by age and location to identify children nearby."
Apple and Google Play have removed FastMeet, Meet24, and Meet4U from their stores, but parents are encouraged to delete the apps from their children's devices.
