Louisiana: First Tropical Depression Of The Hurricane Season Has Formed
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA: Mother Nature wasted no time as the first Tropical Depression of the 2023 hurricane season has formed in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Depression 2 is moving south at 5 mph with maximum sustained winds at 35 mph.

As of right now, the storm is setting a course to Cuba and is heading away from the Gulf coast with no threats to SWLA.

Invest 91L strengthened into TD #2 yesterday on the first day of hurricane season. What I found weird about this storm is that instead of originating in the southern part of the Gulf and heading north, it began close to the US coast and then started traveling southward.

There is a small possibility that we could see our first named storm of the year with this tropical depression as if hits to warm open waters of the Gulf. If that happens, the storm will be named Tropical Storm Arlene.
