A woman was walking her two dogs along Ham Reid Road in front of the Leap Into Learning Day Care Center when a car traveling at a high rate of speed narrowly missed running her down. However, the two dogs she held on a leash weren't as fortunate and were killed.

After a thorough investigation =, deputies learned the car was driven by 22-year-old Gabriel Sonnier of Perry Lane in Lake Charles. According to CPSO, when deputies attempted to contact him, they learned he had fled the state.

That's when, on July 3, Judge Guy Bradberry issued a warrant for Sonnier's arrest in the amount of $185,000. The charges include hit and run driving, aggravated cruelty to animals, obstruction of justice, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Gabriel Sonnier, please call CPSO Sgt. Bryan Guth, lead investigator at 337-491-3605.
