Hurricane Delta will be begin rolling into SWLA in the next few hours.

Currently, the storm is moving N at 13mph with maximum sustained winds at 115mph. Hopefully, this is a weakening trend that will bring Delta ashore at Category 2 strength.

Here's the National Weather Service forecast for SWLA for today:

  • Today - Tropical storm conditions expected, with hurricane conditions possible. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, then showers after 7:00am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 76. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts in excess of four inches possible.
  • Tonight - Hurricane conditions expected. Showers likely, mainly before midnight. The rain could be heavy at times. Cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between two and three inches possible.
  • Saturday - A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. West wind 10 to 15mph, with gusts as high as 20mph.
  • Saturday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 68. West wind around 5mph.

Storm surge will be a big concern around Vermillion Bay. Here locally, Cameron should expect five to eight feet of storm surge and the southern parts of Calcasieu Parish could see two to four feet of surge.
