The top employers of 20-somethings (after the military) are Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Target and Best Buy, according to an analysis of Facebook profiles. To the approximately half of people aged 16 to 29 who are currently jobless, a gig making lattes or greeting Wal-Mart customers may not sound so bad. Among those who do have jobs, a quarter works in the hospitality industry- i.e. food service. In fact, one out of 10 employed Americans works in the restaurant world! The number of food service employees that is college-educated has risen by 9% in the last decade- suggesting a whole lot of 20-somethings are paying off those college loans by waiting tables and tending bar.
