A morning news crew in Virginia were shot and killed while live on-air during an interview at a popular recreation attraction.

According to WDBJ -- the station where the two were employed -- reporter Alison Parker, 24 and photographer Adam Ward, 27, were reporting live at around 6:45 a.m. when shots rang out. WDBJ staff said that neither the suspect nor the motive have been identified yet. The two were reporting live from Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Va. The report was a human interest story, not a crime story or a live report from a crime scene.

Parker started with the station as an intern and worked her way up to reporter. Ward and his girlfriend -- also employed at the station -- were celebrating their last day of employment there.

The station's General Manager Jeff Marks explained during the station's live broadcast following the shooting that the assailant walked in and fired "six or seven shots." Screams were heard, and then the camera was dropped. It is not believed that the interview subject was injured in the shooting.

Marks said the station is not airing the footage for now but would continue to report on the situation as it develops.
