The Simpsons Are Coming To Jazz Fest
Viewers of Fox TV's long-running animated and irreverent comedy series The Simpsons will no doubt recognize some of the landmarks in the show's April 22nd presentation. The show is entitled "Lisa Gets The Blues" and according to NOLA.com that and the fact that the Simpson's plane to Gainesville gets diverted are the reason that Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are all coming to the Big Easy.
The Fox Network released three different animated still pictures from the show's April 22nd presentation. Two of those photos are definitely set in a New Orleans atmosphere. One of the still photos appears to show Homer and Lisa standing in the 200 block of Bourbon Street, that's pictured above.
The other seems to show Homer admiring a plate of shrimp next to a building that NOLA.com writer Mike Scott pontificates could be Commander's Palace.
This isn't the first time the Simpsons stopped in for a visit in New Orleans. In the show entitled Streetcar Named Marge the show took a lot of pot shots at the city, the state, the culture, and several other things that just happened to be true but still, they didn't need to let everyone know.
It is expected that iconic New Orleans entertainer Trombone Shorty will make an appearance in the upcoming episode. Although, it wasn't clear whether he would have a speaking part or whether he would be featured musically, or both. Harry Shearer, a Simpsons cast regular, he's Principal Skinner and Ned Flanders will also show his New Orleans roots by portraying a "local resident" during the episode.
Chances are Lisa Gets The Blues will have several things that we the people of Louisiana and those who live in the New Orleans area will be offended to hear. If the Simpsons didn't cast some shade our way I'd be personally disappointed.
However, if you find your knickers in a knot on Sunday, April 22 after the show has aired just keep repeating this to yourself. It's only a cartoon, it's only a cartoon.
