Homicides On The Rise In Southwest Louisiana; Law Enforcement Says Communities Are Still Safe
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Violent crime in SWLA is on the rise over the past few years and local law enforcement held a press conference yesterday to address safety and crime in the area.
The press conference was sparked by four major shootings in Lake Charles in just four weeks' time. Currently, only one arrest has been made from all those crimes.

The Lake Charles Police Chief, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff, Ward 3 Marshal, Lake Charles Mayor, and Calcasieu District Attorney were on hand to talk and deliver their message to the public.
All five gave the same message that our local communities are safe despite the rising violent crimes in SWLA.

Lake Charles Mayor Marshall Simien said that public safety is not only a law enforcement issue, but also an issue that the community needs to be involved in too:
Part of public safety is that we have to work together. Bringing guns to public places and places where there’s alcohol is a recipe for disaster.
SWLA Homicides in 2025 have already outpaced 2023, and 2024.
