Sulphur Man Arrested for DWI 4th

A Sulphur man was arrested Sunday and racked up several charges including DWI 4th, and more. 

According to a media release from Kim Myers, deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle accident on Sunday, June 30, at about 6:20 am.  Witnesses told deputies the driver of a truck, later identified as Bryan L. Fontenot, 50, 3547 H. Broussard Road, Sulphur, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane for about 2 miles before striking a car.

Deputies detected the odor of alcohol coming from Fontenot's breath when they spoke to him, and they noticed he had an unsteady balance, causing him to almost fall "several times". Fontenot told deputies he drank 3 beers the night before, and that he traveled from Welsh to Vinton thinking he was traveling on Old Spanish Trail. He refused to submit to a field sobriety test and was then arrested and taken to CPSO for a breath intoxilyzer test, that he also refused.  A warrant was obtained to have his blood drawn for a toxicology report, where he was then transported to a local hospital, said Myers.

Fontenot had a blood sample taken at the hospital and was transported back to CPSO and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI 4th; vehicular negligent injury; careless operation; and driving under suspension for prior DWI.  His bond is set at $60,000 with a condition he cannot operate a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.
