Once again, a routine traffic stop has led to the arrest of a wanted person. In this instance, the wanted person turned out to be an unregistered sex offender from Lake Charles.

According to Deputy Chief Mark Kraus , Joseph Lewis Jones, 51, was stopped for a routine traffic violation back on May 5. When they ran Jones' on the computer his name came back as a sex offender and it was learned that Jones had not registered as such.

Jones had been out of prison since October of last year and hadn't registered. Convicted sex offenders must register as such for a period of 25 years. Jones had served time in Texas for indecency with a child. Jones' victim was a 13-year-old-girl.

Jones was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a $25,000 bond set by Judge R. Wyatt.

Det. Michael Nicosia and Cpl. Scott Dougherty handled the arrest.
