Face masks will now be required in all of East Baton Rouge Parish. That's the message from Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. The masks are mandatory beginning tomorrow.

Mayor Broome says "My message is very simple: Save a life, save our economy and wear a face covering."  Mayor Broome says this executive order will be in place until at least August 3rd and it could be extended beyond that if necessary.

Any violators of the orders could face misdemeanor fines not to exceed $200 dollars and or no more than 60 days in jail.

One huge concern for Mayor Broome is that Louisiana saw the largest single-day increase in reported coronavirus cases over the past three months. Our state reported 2,083 additional cases, but those numbers go back to last week and it is not a one day number.

Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins has not issued a mandatory mask order at this point but he is urging all residents to wear a mask if you have to go out and be among other people.

In New Orleans, face masks are mandatory. Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced several restrictions that go beyond the restrictions that are in place across the rest of the state. Bars are open in New Orleans but the Mayor has said that could change if the circumstances change.
