While Sunday is officially the beginning of summer, there is not much to convince me we are not already there. It has been truly hot over the past few days. When you're steering wheel is heated and your seats are burning up, it is truly a hot time. This is also the time where, unfortunately, we lose many of our children. While it is obviously not on purpose, parents are running into stores quickly to get away from the heat and sometimes forget about their children in the backseat.

Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke has taken the lives of 886 children since 1998. This is a staggering number, to say the least. Again, I don't believe a parent sets out to intentionally leave their child in a hot car, but it has happened too many times. Recently, the first hot car related death in Louisiana claimed the life of a toddler.

That is why parents and all adults are being reminded to look before you lock. In other words, make a mental note to look in the back of your vehicle before you get out to make sure you don't forget your loved one in the backseat.

It doesn't take long for a vehicle to get hot and it takes even less time before a child is caught in a situation they possibly can't come back from. It's the summertime, and we need to make sure to make the right moves if we are going to make it through this year. Our kids want to go with us everywhere we go, so let's take a little time to make them a priority.
