Landrieu Blocks Bill To Protect Citgo Jobs
Senator Mary Landrieu has blocked a bill that would have imposed sanctions on Venezuela. It is the second time that she blocked the bill this summer because she is concerned the bill would affect jobs at the Lake Charles Citgo refinery.
According to the Lake Charles American Press the law would empower the president to block and prohibit all transactions of property between the U.S. and Venezuela. Citgo is owned by a subsidiary on Venezuela's state owned energy company. A spokesman for Landrieu said that she will continue to block the bill at least until language is added that would protect the Lake Charles jobs.
According to the Citgo home page the plant has 1,200 full time employees.
