Lake Charles Native Named Atlanta Falcons General Manager

A graduate of Lagrange High School and all-state defensive back, Terry Fontenot, has been named as the new General Manager of the Atlanta Falcons football team.

Terry Fontenot is a Lake Charles native who went on to play collegiate football at Tulane from 1999-2002. Fontenot got his start in the NFL as a marketing intern with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints' General Manager Mickey Loomis recognized his hard work and asked him to join the scouting staff as an intern.

He's spent the last 18 years with the Saints and was most recently promoted to Vice President/Assistant General Manager of Pro Personnel.

Fontenot will become the Falcons' first African-American General Manager. Another thing to note, since he's coming from New Orleans, the Saints will receive two third-round picks in exchange for him being allowed to accept the position in Atlanta.

It seems like we've been losing some great personnel to the college ranks and other NFL teams over the last few years. It speaks volumes on how well Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis are able to not only recognize great talent, but also to develop that talent.

The latest news has former Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen a favorite for the Philadelphia Eagles job and Tight Ends coach Dan Campbell a favorite for the Detroit Lions job. Another thing to note, the LSU Tigers were attempting to sign Defensive Line Coach Ryan Nielsen as their Defensive Coordinator, but the Saints matched the offer and promoted him to Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach.
