Dr. Dobson was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 21, 1936. He founded Focus On The Family in 1977.

His life was heavily influenced by religion from an early age. At the age of three, he responded to his father's altar call by giving his life to Jesus, and he once told a reporter that he learned how to pray before he learned to speak.

Dr. Dobson formed one of the biggest faith-based organizations in the world. In more than 160 nations, his daily radio broadcasts were translated into 27 languages and broadcast on more than 4,000 radio stations in North America alone.

The Dr. James Dobson Family Institute acknowledged his death this morning. Shirley, his wife of 64 years, his two daughters, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren survive him.

Dr. James C. Dobson, one of the most influential Christian leaders of the last half-century and a tireless advocate for the traditional family, passed away on August 21, 2025 at the age of 89.
