
Louisiana Sends National Guard Troops To Washington, D.C.
(KHLA- Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Louisiana has joined five other Republican lead states to send National Guard troops to the nation's capital to help President Trump fight crime in Washington, D.C.
Currently, that brings the total of National Guard troops allocated to D.C. to 1,100 soldiers.

Initially 800 troops from the Washington, D.C. National Guard were called up by President Trump. However, since the federalization of the police force in the nation's capital, six Republican governors have sent troops to aid the President in his crime and immigration efforts.

Govenor Jeff Landry has approved sending 135 soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard to Washington, D.C.
Gov. Landry said via social media:
I am proud to support this mission to return safety and sanity to Washington DC and cities all across our country, including right here in Louisiana.
According to officials, Guard members are just assisting in the temporary detention of individuals when required before turning them over to police enforcement; they are not making arrests. The statute permits troops to defend government workers and property. They can protect themselves as well, but they have to let the local police handle law enforcement.
United States Attorney General Pam Bondi ultimately oversees the military operation in D.C. and the local police.
President Trump's executive order federalizing the police in Washington, D.C. expires in three weeks, however, he has expressed that he intends to extend the order.
