Former Lake Charles Teacher Re-Arrested for Additional Sexual Offenses Involving a Minor
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office re-arrested Deidre R. Smith of Sulphur, a former teacher in Lake Charles, on 17 additional counts of sexual offenses with a 10-year-old student.
On April 30, administrators at Lake Charles Charter Academy issued a complaint with CPSO regarding teacher, Diedre R. Smith, 34, 5006 Maplewood Drive, Sulphur, for possibly having an inappropriate relationship with one of her 10-year-old students.
Investigators learned Smith had engaged in inappropriate contact with the boy since the end of 2018, including sexual intercourse. She was arrested and booked in the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 1st-degree rape; and felony indecent behavior with a juvenile. She was released the same day on a $50,000 bond.
On Thursday, June 13, Smith was re-arrested after detectives learned of more incidents that took place with the victim in 2019. She again booked into C.C.C. and charged with 9 counts of 1st-degree rape; 5 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile; 2 counts of sexual battery; and 1 count oral sexual battery. Her bond is set at $1.3 million.
