A DeRidder man was about to go to turn in for the night on Monday, when he and his family decided to check their Powerball tickets.  Much to their surprise, they had one big money.

After accurately matching four white balls, the red Powerball, and adding the Power Play option, John Stokes tripled his earnings.

The $1.4 billion Powerball prize tonight is the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot and the sixth-largest payout of any lottery game in the United States.

To safeguard their claim, the Louisiana Lottery advises all participants to sign the back of their tickets as soon as possible after purchase. Draw-style game winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their tickets.
