Mosquitoes kill over 1,000,000 humans every year. In fact, the CDC was invented because of mosquitoes to fight malaria. George Washington and seven other US Presidents contracted malaria.
How Many Species Of Mosquitoes Exist Worldwide
There are 3000 species of mosquitoes worldwide, 68 of which are found in Louisiana. They also can spread 16 deadly diseases including malaria, west nile virus, zika and yellow fever.

I think you will be surprised where Louisiana cities sit on the list and what cities are above them.
Los Angeles is ranked first for the third year in a row on Orkin's list of the worst cities for mosquitoes in 2023. Atlanta had previously held the top spot for seven straight years.
Orkin rates the top 50 mosquito-infested cities each year based on how frequently exterminators were called for treatment in the previous 12 months.

At this point, you're probably asking yourself the same question I did. How did a Louisiana city not make the top 10?
Well, one Louisiana city did make the top 50. New Orleans came in at #41 on the list.
It's crazy to think that New York City and other northing cities has more mosquitoes than ones in Louisiana. I thought for sure Baton Rouge and maybe Shreveport would've made the top 50.
