According to wwl.com the deadly brain eating Naegleria fowleri  amoeba has never been found in drinking waterin St. Bernard and DeSoto Parishes. This means there may be more chlorine in your drinking water soon.

Water systems all across the state are currently being tested.  The CDC and EPA are both reviewing the recommended chlorine levels. Current chlorine levels are enough to kill bacteria but not the amoeba. The amoeba has killed two people in St. Bernard Parish and one in Desoto since 2011. I don't know about you but I will take the chlorine smell over the amoeba. The amoeba does not kill you if you simply drink the water ... it only kills if the water works it's way high into the nasal passages. The main concern is in water lines far from the water treatment plants.
