Will the city of Lake Charles give up control of the Lake Charles Civic Center to a private company to run? That's been the talk of the town for at least six months here in SWLA.

The city of Lake Charles held its first council meeting of 2020 and on the voting docket was whether to release control of the Civic Center to ASM Global.

Mayor Nic Hunter said:

This proposal tonight is presented after many hours of meetings, deliberations, and negotiations.

At the meeting, several citizens spoke up in favor of ASM taking control and how beneficial it will be to SWLA.

Councilwoman Mary Morris expressed her concern during the meeting that the contract in front of her between the city and ASM was not beneficial to Lake Charles and she let it be known that she will not be supporting a yes vote.

When it was all said and done, six councilpersons voted to give the private company control of the Civic Center.

Over the next several weeks, the city will be finalizing the contract with ASM Global. The current bookings and rentals for 2020 will not be affected when ASM takes control.
