The 54th Grammy awards are this Sunday and while most of the awards will to to no talents who have ridden some producers coat tails into fame and fortune, there may be a few moments of what the awards were intended to do...and that is celebrate music.. You can't tell the players without a program...with that thought in mind....the envelope please....

Former Yardbirds'  guitarist   Jeff Beck snagged perhaps the biggest nomination, having a chance to win the Best Rock Album award for his album ‘Rock N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul.’ Beyond that, the next most prestigious honor in the classic rock world would be for Best Blues Album, which will feature no less than three members of the Allman Brothers Band facing off against each other with their various solo projects. (The Allmans will also receive a lifetime achievement award at the big event.)

Elsewhere, Paul McCartney and Wings are up for Best Historical Record for the deluxe re-issue of their ‘Band on the Run’ album, while Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Keith Richards all received nominations in the Best Boxed Set or Limited Edition Packaging category.

A highlight of this year's Grammy Awards will be the appearance of the surviving members of the Beach Boys. It's been over 20 years since Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston appeared together. Seems that some of the disagreements go as far back as 1966 when Mike Love refered to Brian's "Pet Sounds" as "ego music". Of course critics (and now history) have proven that "Pet Sounds" is indeed a classic record.

It will be interesting to see just how the egos involved in the Beach Boys organization will handle the reunion.

Also performing will be  Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Paul McCartney, and Neil Young, who will take part in a scheduled tribute to McCartney. Meanwhile, another former Beatle, Ringo Starr, is scheduled to present an award during the ceremony.

Most of the awards listed above likely will be handed out during the Grammy pre-telecast, and you can watch that at 3PM right  here. The 54th annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on CBS on Sunday night at 7 .
