Arlington, Virginia is named “America’s Fittest City” in the latest report from the American College of Sports Medicine.

The group took a close look at the 100 largest cities in the nation and checked out more than 30 separate criteria.

Here are the rest of the top 10 on the "Fit City" list:

2. Seattle

3. Minneapolis

4. Madison, Wisconsin

5 San Francisco

6. Washington, D.C.

7. Irvine, California

8. Denver

9. Boise, Idaho

10. Boston

Shreveport Bossier is not on the list because we are not among the largest 100 cities in the nation. But Baton Rouge lands at #78 on the list while New Orleans is #50.

One of the problems cited in Baton Rouge is a limited number of recreational centers.

This is the 13th year for the Fitness Index and it is now used in many cities to adjust policy to find ways to make improvements.

Why is Arlington #1? The report cites a balance of healthy behaviors and facilities available to residents as the primary reason Arlington takes the top spot.

Here are the bottom 10 on the "Fit List":

Fort Worth, Wichita, Fort Wayne, Arlington, Texas, Indianapolis, Detroit, Michigan, Memphis, Tulsa, North Las Vegas, Bakersfield, California and Oklahoma City falls last on the list.

There are some exciting pieces of information in the report including the index showing more Americans are now  exercising and fewer people are now smoking.
