What Pets Are Illegal to Own in Louisiana?
What pets are okay to own and which are not? It truly depends on where you live in the state. In the state of Louisiana, however, the list is pretty short.
Across the state, there is a ban on owning any of the following:
- Black Bears
- Grizzly Bears
- Polar Bears
- Red Wolf
- Gray Wolf
- Wolf Dog Hybrid
- All non-human primates
And the following 'big cats':
- Tigers
- Lions
- Leopards
- Jaguars
- Cheetahs
- Cougars or Mountain Lions
- All the subspecies of the above listed
- Hybrids of the above listed species
Some parishes completely ban all exotic pets. These include Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge, and Caddo Parishes. The cities of Rayne, Shreveport, Slidell and Vivian also ban all exotic pets.
So, if you wanted to start an animal park like Joe Exotic you'd have to move out of the great state of Louisiana.
