"There's nothing for kids to do here"

"You could volunteer to help rebuild Millennium Park"

"I mean seriously..there needs to be a place for kids to go"

"The park needs volunteers"

"Other towns have places for kids to go"

"We're about 2,000 volunteers short..you could help"

"Nahhh..we're going to Lafayette for the weekend..they have stuff for kids to do"

It may have burned down, but efforts to rebuild Millennium Park bigger and better are getting closer to reality. The park was fully engulfed in flames when Lake Charles firefighters arrived on January 9th. Authorities would later determine it to be arson at the hands of a Lake Charles teen.

Since then a lot of work has been done to rebuild the park. The site has been cleared and prepped for work. Through the generous donations of community sponsors organizers have raised more than 80% of the $350,000 needed to rebuild the new park. However, they still need a lot of volunteers. So far they have about 1,000 people signed up, but need a total of 3,000.

"We have a job for anyone who can volunteer their time. We also still need a few more site captains if you have friends or if you can lend your time for the build we need about 15. We currently have about 10 right now. And those guys are on site from 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. It's an all day job, but it's a lot of fun," said Shelly Appleby, with the City of Lake Charles.

If you would like to join in on the fun the build days are October 26-30 and November 2-6. To volunteer click here.
