Top 10 Excuses Folks Use Not To “Buckle Up”

James Anderson of the Louisiana State Police visited our studios this morning and his main message was that all law enforcement officers are going to be on the look out for folks not wearing seat belts. He brought along an interesting list of the Top 10 Excuses folks in law enforcement hear as "reasons" not to buckle up ! You won't believe how lame some of the excuses are...

1. I FORGET
One head-on collision and they'll be teaching you to tie your shoes again...and your name...
2. I'M ONLY DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE
How perfect! The drive to the morgue is also a short distance. Not that you'll care how long it takes
3. I DON'T WANT TO BE TRAPPED IN A FIRE OR UNDER WATER.
Or carried off by an eagle...the odds are about the same. (Less than 1/10 of 1%) Fastening your
seat belt makes it impossible for an eagle to carry you away!
4. IT'S UNCOMFORTABLE
More comfortable than traction!
5. IT'S MY RIGHT NOT TO WEAR A SEAT BELT!
I've scanned the Bill of Rights and Constitution. Very few references to seat belts.
6. I AM SAFE ! I DRIVE A BIG TRUCK
Also known as the "Macho Excuse". Yeah, who ever heard of a truck rolling over?
7. MY KIDS WON'T LISTEN TO ME.
Take the cost of the ticket out of their allowance. that usually gets their attention.
8. WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF GETTING A TICKET FOR THAT?

9. COPS CAN'T STOP YOU FOR NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT

10. IT'S SAFER TO BE THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE.
That way you are sure to land on a nice soft surface. Like I-10, or a bridge railing..or get thrown in  front of a bus..and that, my friend, is AFTER you've gone through the windshield...in which case you probably won't have to sweat the pavement or the bus.

Okay..We've all heard the urban myths that someone's "Paw Paw" would have died if he had been wearing his seat belt. Okay fine...There are people out there who have won the Powerball lottery...How are you set for cash?
Buckle Up. The police will be out and they won't make jokes about it!
