According to a media release, the City of Lake Charles has signed on for the nationwide park celebration "Kids to Parks Day" on Saturday, May 19. It's described as "a grassroots movement to discover America's parks through play", with kids across the nation taking part in the family-friendly event.

Residents are invited out to all City of Lake Charles parks and outdoor spaces, in addition to the commemorative "Kids to Parks Day" event taking place at Millennium Park, located on Bord Du Lac Drive, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include "face painting, balloons, fun jumps, train rides, Connect 4, bowling, coloring activities, splash pads, as well as free food, like snowcones popcorn, and cotton candy."

"Mayor Nic Hunter recently proclaimed Kids to Parks Day in Lake Charles and encourages locals to participate by exploring Millennium Park and other public parks within the city."

“Our parks located throughout the city give kids of all ages a place to enjoy the outdoors. Parks provide a space for neighborhood residents to interact with each other and meet new people. We’ve recently begun hosting Midnight Basketball and Teen Connection in some of our parks and community centers in order to offer recreational and learning opportunities for youth. I invite all Lake Charles residents to join me on May 19 for Kids to Parks Day,” said Mayor Hunter.
