Let’s take a look at some of the most impressive mountains in Texas.

Guadalupe Mountains – Home to the Highest Peak in Texas

The Guadalupe Mountains are in far West Texas, near the New Mexico border. This range includes Guadalupe Peak, which is the highest point in Texas at 8,751 feet. The mountains are part of Guadalupe Mountains National Park, which is great for hiking and camping. The park is also home to El Capitan, a huge limestone cliff that was once an important landmark for travelers.

Davis Mountains – A Cool Escape in the Desert

The Davis Mountains are located in West Texas near the town of Fort Davis. They are known for their cooler temperatures and beautiful views. Mount Livermore, the highest peak in this range, stands at 8,382 feet. The Davis Mountains are home to Davis Mountains State Park and the famous McDonald Observatory, where visitors can see the stars like never before.

Chisos Mountains – The Heart of Big Bend

The Chisos Mountains are located inside Big Bend National Park in southwestern Texas. These mountains are special because they are the only range completely inside a U.S. national park. The highest peak, Emory Peak, rises to 7,825 feet. The Chisos Basin, a valley surrounded by the peaks, is a great spot for camping, hiking, and spotting wildlife like black bears and roadrunners.

Franklin Mountains – Mountains in the City

Unlike the other ranges, the Franklin Mountains are right next to a big city, El Paso! These rugged mountains stretch for about 23 miles and include North Franklin Peak (7,192 feet). Franklin Mountains State Park is a great place to hike and explore, and it’s one of the largest urban parks in the United States.
