Texas Has A Brand New Lake, The First In 30 Years
For those Texans who want to live out the lake-life, there is some good news. For the first time in 30 years, Texas has a new, manmade lake. Bois D'Arc Lake is located about an hour northeast of Dallas and it officially opened last week.
The original plans for the reservoir's design goes back to the 80's according to CBS News, but buying up property along with construction, getting permits, and waiting for the rain to fill it up took decades. But for area residents and visitors, the wait was worth it.
According to CBS News, fisherman will be happy to know that the lake has been stocked with a million fish including Largemouth Trophy Bass.
While fisherman are sure to love the new lake, the main purpose of course is to be a long term provider of water to north Texans according to CBS News.
Bois D' Arc Lake sits on nearly 17,000 acres and is already proving to be a fishing paradise on its first day. But the lake's primary use is to provide water for a lot of North Texans.
The North Texas Municipal Water District, which provides drinking water to more than 2 million people in 13 North Texas cities created and manages the lake.
If I had to bet, I'd bet that Bois D' Arc Lake is going to be pretty popular this year. Watch the youtube video below to learn more about Texas' newest lake.
